2009 Funding Opportunities

Important Changes to the LSDF 2009 Project and Program Grant Competitions

Washington's 2009-2011 Biennial Operating Budget directs an estimated $39 million to the Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF). This represents an approximate 40% reduction in LSDF's grantmaking capacity. To accommodate this reduction, LSDF has adjusted the maximum funding allocations for its 2009 Project and Program Grant Competitions as follows:

  • Project Grant Competition - From $8 million to $5 million (3-6 awards anticipated)
  • Program Grant Competition - From $20 million to $15 million (3-5 awards anticipated)

The number of awards will depend on the number and quality of proposals received.

The proposal submission deadline and other key dates for the 2009 Program Grant Competition have also been adjusted. Changes to the budget allocation and competition calendar are summarized in the revised Program Grant Competition Request for Proposals.

The Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF) has four grant competitions in 2009:
